Have you ever heard of the Millennium Development Goals?

At the Millennium Summit in September 2000, world leaders undertook the commitment to halve by 2015 the proportion of people in the world whose income is less than one dollar a day and the proportion of people who suffer from hunger. They also pledged in the United Nations Millennium Declaration to achieve other Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – goals that encompass education, gender equality and women’s empowerment, health and communicable diseases such as AIDS and malaria, and environment sustainability.
